    浦項竹島市場是因50年前攤販開始在蘆葦叢生的浦項內港池沼地帶做生意而形成，1969年10月，竹島市場繁榮會正式成立，如今已成長為店鋪數高達1500多家店鋪的慶尚北道東海岸最大傳統市場。近來雖因大型量販店進駐浦項而面臨困境，但竹島市場的商人們積極轉型，決定透過開設線上竹島市場等方式重新出發。在浦項鬧區五岔路口東側500公尺處有東海岸最大的常設市場「竹島魚市場」，在水產委託銷售場內則有200多家生魚片店，一年四季都能用低廉價格購買東海岸的新鮮生魚片，在附近餐廳只要支付醋醬等材料費就能現場品嚐。在知名料理方面，有以新鮮時令海鮮製成的浦項水拌生魚片與使用整隻肥美鮑魚煮成的鮑魚粥，冬季還能嚐到浦項盛產的凍秋刀魚乾。
